What I’ve been up to lately | Digital Designs

I haven’t posted on this blog since January.  Tomorrow is officially March…which makes me kind of a pathetic blogger.  As soon as I get my head back on straight and ‘Caps for Chemo’ orders have been taken care of, I will be back.  I promise.

As of late, I’ve been dabbling in the world of digital designs.  Well…I guess you could say that I’ve been doing that for a while now.  But I guess it’s starting to take a whole new direction.  First of all, if you haven’t visited my Katy’s Gone Digital store yet: DO IT!!  I’ve made a few templates for photographers to be able to use as attachments for their clients.  Here’s the link: www.katysgonedigital.etsy.com

It’s not just for photographers either!  I’ve made a few ‘Save the Dates’, Christmas cards and 1st birthday invitations for some of my friends (and my husband’s photography clients).  When my hands aren’t busy crocheting, they are busy working up some computerized versions of my creativity.

I shared the above photo on my Facebook page a while back, but this is one of the designs I made for a high school buddy of mine.  She’s getting hitched to her sweetheart this September and I had the honor of making the “Save the Date” cards that went out to her family and friends.  It’s pretty special that people like my work enough to share it with others.  Especially when it comes to something as big as your wedding!!

I’ve also done a few logo designs for some of my friends.  You’ve probably heard me gush about Kayla (Kayla’s Creative Collection) before.  She’s such a sweetheart and has such a great eye for accessories.  I created her a logo:

And a new cover photo for the newly launched Timeline on Facebook for business pages:

Do you love them like I do?  It’s fun and cheerful and sweet.  Just like Kayla. :)

The next person I created a logo for was the newest up and coming photographer extraordinaire in Fairmont, WV.  Kuirsta and I were also high school buddies back in Michigan…and somehow we both ended up in West Virginia.  Strange, huh?

You can find her work here: Kuirsta Marie Photography on Facebook.

So there you have it.  Just a little show-and-tell of my new adventures in creating.  If you have anything you think I might be able to make for you, just let me know.  I’m all for a new challenge!!  Email me: katy@katyscreations.com

Caps for Chemo 2012

I’m very excited to be able to bring this back in the year 2012!!  I was going to wait until February hit – but I was inspired by my auntie’s current situation to help others as much and as quickly as I can.  So here we are!!  Bring it on!

What exactly is ‘Caps for Chemo’?
Hair loss for people during their chemotherapy treatments tend to be something that is a difficult thing to grasp.  It’s bad enough that they are going through all of the health-related issues…but to have people actually “see” that you are sick kind of makes it harder.  I’m trying to help alleviate some of that discomfort – by keeping their noggins both warm AND stylish.

This is where you come in!!  Every hat that you order between now and February 14, 2012 will be DUPLICATED and it’s duplicated will then be DONATED to a chemotherapy patient in my local area.2012-01-09 caps for chemo

How do I order?
Ordering your caps is easy-peasy.  Simply shoot me an email (katy@katyscreations.com) and let me know what you have in mind.  I would try and list all of the different hat styles I’ve made – but the list would be super long and it’s easier to just have you check out my pictures!

Anything listed on my online store (http://shop.katyscreations.com) or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/katyscreations) can be recreated.  Or – if you have something more ‘custom’ in mind, I’m totally open for ideas.

How much do your hats cost?  And which sizes do they come in?
Here is my general sizing/price information:

  • Infant Hat (0-6 months): $16.00
  • Infant Hat (6-12 months): $18.00
  • Toddler Hat (1-3 years): $18.00
  • Youth Hat (3-10 years): $20.00
  • Adult Hat (10 years +): $22.00

{This year, I am also asking for a $4.00 donation (per hat ordered) to help cover the cost of materials.} When deciding on sizes – if you ever question which size your little one will fit into, the general rule of thumb is to order the next size up.  Even if it’s a little large on them now, they’ll be able to use it in the future as well.

**Any duplicate hat for an infant size will automatically be made in a toddler/youth size.  I do all of my invoicing via PayPal and accept payment in multiple ways.  If you have any questions, please just ask.  I will not begin working on your order until payment has been received and due to the volume of orders I will be taking, the delivery of your hats cannot be guaranteed until March 31, 2012.  If (for any reason) it will take me longer than that date, I will be sure to contact you about your specific order.

Where do the donation hats go?
I have a connection through Western Pennsylvania & West Virginia Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  I’m located in Wheeling, West Virginia and it’s only fitting to donate to a local chapter and help my neighbors out a little bit!!

Each hat will have a donation form attached to it, telling the recipient where and whom their new headwear is from.  (I don’t put last names, for your privacy!!)  Here’s an example of the form I will include.

Why the LLS (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society)?
Unfortunately, cancer is something that my family has come to know a little too well.  There have been four people in my extended family diagnosed with cancer.  The “C” word.  Gross.

I’ve now had a total of three people on my mom’s side of the family be affected specifically by Lymphoma.  For some reason or another, it just doesn’t want to leave us alone.  The LLS has been very supportive of my family and I’d do anything to help others that are in similar situations.

For more information about the LLS, here are some websites:

Origami Flowers | “I Made It” Monday

2012-01-02That’s right folks!!  “I Made It” Monday is back!!  My goal for 2012 is to bring you 52 weeks of crafty and creative things that everyday people make in their everyday lives.  What’s more awesome than that??

This week’s blogisode of awesomeness is a craft that I got to learn how to make alongside my new BFF.  Is it too nerdy to admit that instead of partying into the new year, the two of us were crafting into 2012 together?  Haha.

I wish you could see just how cool these are in person…as well as how easy they are to make.  It just takes a bit of patience to get enough made to decorate your house like Brittany did.  She made about a million of these awesome little flowers to adorn the walls of her tangerine dining room.  I wish I had the guts and the interior decorating talents that she does!  Ugh…amazing, right??

2012-01-02b

She created all of these flowers with pages from an old book and some origami folding – and brought her supplies over to my house on Saturday to teach me the folding techniques required.  I couldn’t believe how easy it was!!

2012-01-02c

--First, you cut a 4-1/2 by 4-1/2 square into a piece of paper.  It can be any paper of your choosing – Brittany is a book-nerd of sorts, so this happens to be the perfect type for her décor.

--Next, fold the paper in half, to make a triangle.

--Then fold each triangle corner “in”…which will result in a little square.

2012-01-02d

--This is where things get a little trickier for me to explain.  You put your finger in the folds that you just made and kind of “pop” them out and press to fold.

2012-01-02e

--Fold the tops of the diamond-shapes that you just created down, into the main area of the paper.  Then using the fold line in the middle of the triangles that you just created, fold the flaps in on themselves.

--Use hot glue to form a petal and then glue five petals together to create a totally awesome flower.  You’re done!  You’ve just created your first origami flower!  Wooohooo! :)
